The question of “when to start?” is asked when considering anti-aging cosmetic treatments. We believe your skin should be assessed on an individual level. Often, there are many treatments that can benefit you without being too invasive.
Here are some of our favorite treatments based on age group. Please keep in mind we recommend having a consultation and discussing the pros and cons before having any cosmetic treatments.
Starting in your teens and 20s
Sun Protection
We believe skin care should be as routine as teeth brushing. When you live in an area like south Florida there is an additional emphasis on beginning your skincare routine at a young age. Since sun damage is cumulative using preventive products as a part of your daily system is the best way to combat pigmentation, sunspots and sun related wrinkles.
The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends SPF 30 at a minimum.
Retinoids
This may be a name you’re familiar with if you’ve had acne treatment. However, many overlook it’s incredible value of continued use even way after your acne has cleared up. Retinoid/retinol is a compound of Vitamin A, for those who have yet to be acquainted.
Getting a good quality retinoid/retinol product in your routine helps with cell turnover, collagen synthesis, pigment production which can ultimately delay aging and act as what we call ‘prejuvination’.
Starting in your mid-20s to mid-30s
Neuromodulators
Yep, it’s botox time. We recommend setting up a consultation to talk about introducing muscle-relaxing toxins, like Botox and Xeomin, in your mid-20s to mid-30s. The lines on the face that are interpreted as aging, or tiredness, will not form when you begin to use neuromodulator injections.
As a result, there aren’t any blatant appearance changes when using neuromodulators. This type of injection simply relaxes the muscles you use in areas that create forehead crease wrinkles, crows-feet and elevens lines. Ultimately this treatment reverses the appearance if you already have them or preventing it all together if you don’t.
Resurfacing Procedures
Two words: Chemical Peel. At Castrellon Aesthetic Surgery, we are huge fans of the incredible results a chemical peel yields after a single use. It is one of the best minimally invasive anti-aging cosmetic treatments. The Perfect Derma Peel is essentially a magic eraser when used regularly. This treatment will help erase fine lines and wrinkles, reduce enlarged pores, help build collagen and elastin in the skin. It will also eliminate hyperpigmentation and melasma, even reducing acne scarring.
Fillers
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are ideal for beginners because they’re temporary and reversible. They are a great way to test how you look and feel without a strong commitment to changing your appearance. As a result, they have been shown to spark collagen synthesis, allowing them to keep skin smooth beyond the life of the gel itself.
- Juvéderm® solves variety of concerns, including marionette lines, nasolabial folds, parentheses lines, lip enhancement, and lost volume in the cheeks.
- Restylane® smooths moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, lifts the contours of the midface, and enhances the lips.
Similarly calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) fillers are great for those that want a natural looking result. The injectable gel has the immediate results of filling in the volume you want. Eventually the CaHA stimulates your naturally-occurring collagen, promoting your skin to produce more of its own filler.
- Radiesse® provides an immediate plumping effect while promoting your skin’s natural collagen production over time for long-lasting results.
Silhouette Instalift
If you’re looking for a more dramatic result we recommend setting up a consultation with Dr. Castrellon to explore if you’re a good candidate for an instalift. This process could be thought of as a recontour of the face and is best for someone who has experienced mid to lower facial drooping as they have aged.
The Right Anti-Aging Cosmetic Treatment for You in Miami, Florida
No matter what your current age is or your anti-aging goals, there is a self care routine for you. Considering anti-aging cosmetic treatments in the Miami, Broward or Palm Beach area? Give us a call at Castrellon Aesthetic Surgery to book your consultation and reach your cosmetic goals.
For early signs of aging, treatments that use retinoids, vitamin C, and alpha hydroxy acids may be enough. Chemical peels, dermabrasion, microneedling, ultrasound energy devices, or laser resurfacing may be an option for moderate to severe facial sun damage.
When to Begin Using Anti-Aging Products. Most people think to start using anti-aging products when they’re well into their fifties, right around the time when the wrinkles, drooping skin, etc. start to look more and more permanent. In actuality, you can and should start using these products as early as your 20s.
As the skin ages, oil production typically wanes, leading to dry skin and therefore requiring richer, heavier creams to alleviate this dryness. Many of these heavy creams can cause occlusion (clogging) of young skin which has more natural oil production,” Weiser says.
The best in class for wrinkle removal, treatment of crow’s feet, sun damage removal and overall skin rejuvenation is the Fraxel Re:pair laser. Yes, there is some downtime with Fraxel, but after a couple days looking like you have a sunburn, your skin will look 10 years younger, tighter and completely refreshed.
They also noticed improvements in depression. Another study found that social anxiety was improved after facial cosmetic surgery. Other studies have found that patients experience an overall improvement in health and well-being. Patients also report freedom from anxiety as well as a greater sense of independence.

It’s so important to start with keeping your skin healthy at a young age first. If you do that, you can push the other stuff back. Great post.
I can’t imagine starting that young! I’m in my 40’s and haven’t even considered it. Maybe in 10 years.
I think it’s really important to take care of your skin early. Good sun care is always great for any regimen.
I started immediately after the age of 18, after all aging begins, alas right after the age of majority!
Super useful information to be sharing! I definitely learned a lot, thank you for posting about this.
The skin of each person is individual. It is related to genetics and lifestyle. Natural, paraben-free anti-aging cosmetics are good, still, there are other good choices such as: avoiding cigarettes and excessive alcohol consumption, getting hours of sleep a night, and eating a healthy diet.
I think we should start on early age to take care of skin. There are simple ways to do it. No need for treatments. I think for treatments, late 20s – 30s for me!
Starting a basic skin-care routine in your teens and 20s is a good idea. But, if you are older, it’s not too late to start caring for your skin
This is such an informative post. I regret knowing it later that my teenage years so I will make sure my future kids and my younger cousins will know this earlier. Skin care is sometimes we tend to forget.
This is so important!! I used to be somewhat careless with my skin but I’m taking responsibility these days. Thanks for sharing these tips.
Your skin is important and it’s a good thing to start caring for your skin before you see signs of aging.
Hhhhmmmm….alright then. Thank you for the heads-up!
